Troy proposed to Maia while on vacation in Asheville, NC. The couple arrived at the Biltmore Estate early in the morning on the first full day of the trip. As soon as they were on the grounds, Troy insisted they view the estate from the High Lawn. Maia was not convinced on this plan and really wanted a cup of coffee first. He was very persistent, so she begrudgingly followed him to the viewpoint but observed photographers on the hill. Not wanting to be in the way of their pictures (and not knowing they were there for them!), she protested again when Troy tried his best to carefully guide her into the center of the lawn for a perfect shot. Maia only realized what was happening once Troy got down on one knee. He completely surprised her and she said yes! They enjoyed the rest of their trip hiking in the Blue Ridge Mountains, exploring Asheville's wellness scene, and (of course) drinking coffee. Troy would later say that what kept him up the night prior was not IF she would say yes, but rather HOW he would convince her to get to the location while the photographer was still there.
